An unlikely trio! Bruce Willis and his wife, Emma Heming, maintain a close relationship with his ex-wife, Demi Moore.
The Die Hard star and the actress tied the knot in 1987 and started growing their family the following year. Rumer arrived in 1988, followed by sisters Scout and Tallulah in 1991 and 1994, respectively. They announced their separation in 1998, filing for divorce two years later.
The former couple’s eldest daughter gushed about her parents’ coparenting relationship in 2015, telling Larry King at the time: “They always made an effort to do all of the family events still together and made such an effort to still have our family be as one unit, as opposed to two separate things, which I think really made an impact.”
In 2000, Willis opened up about how “very close” he still is to the Inside Out author. “We have three children whom we will continue to raise together, and we’re probably as close now as we ever were,” the Pulp Fiction star told Rolling Stone at the time. “We realize we have a lifelong commitment to our kids. Our friendship continues. The institution has been set aside.”
The actor added, “It’s difficult to live your life and marriage under a magnifying glass, which is what happens to movie star couples.”
While Moore moved on with Ashton Kutcher and was married to the That ‘70s Show star from 2005 to 2013, Willis wed Heming in 2009 and renewed their vows a decade later. The couple share daughters Mabel and Evelyn, whom they welcomed in April 2012 and May 2014, respectively.
The pair make their marriage work by having “a lot of respect for each other, which has really helped build a great foundation,” the Malta native told Us Weekly exclusively in April 2019. “He always keeps me on my toes, so it’s fun.”

“Happy Birthday to this powerful and beautiful woman Demi, mama to these three lovely girls,” Heming captioned an Instagram upload. “I’m filled with so much gratitude that I get to call you family.”
Heming and Willis “wouldn’t” renew their vows without Moore there. The model told Us exclusively, “She welcomed me into her family like I welcomed her into ours. I have so much respect for how Bruce and Demi worked through their divorce to be able to put their children first. I learned so much from that and grew so much from watching that. It was important for her to be there.”
She posted a family photo while celebrating in Turks and Caicos.
The Emmy winner and Heming attended Willis’ ex-wife’s book launch.
Moore held one of Heming’s daughters on her lap at a family birthday party.
After the Ghost star and Willis posted pictures quarantining in matching pajamas with their daughters via Instagram, the former model commented, “Love and miss you guys.”
“Happy birthday @demimoore,” Heming captioned an Instagram Story selfie with her husband in honor of Moore’s 58th birthday. “We adore you!” The couple held up the Ghost actress’ autobiography, Inside Out, in their cheeky tribute snap.
Heming celebrated her birthday with “a few of [her] favorite people,” including Moore.
Moore gushed about Heming on International Women’s Day in an Instagram post honoring “the women who inspire me.
“I #SeeHer as family who I am honored to call a friend. Our children are sisters and yet there is no name for what our family connection is to one another,” Moore wrote in March 2021. “We are mothers united, sisters bonded on this crazy adventure of life.”
Heming was equally effusive, telling the Inside Out author that she “touch[ed] my soul” with her kind words: “Thank you Demi ♥️ I adore you too.”
The women and their respective daughters released a letter announcing Willis’ struggle with aphasia and subsequent retirement. Heming signed the note first, followed by Moore. Willis’ daughters were listed from oldest to youngest.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the joint statement, released via Instagram, read. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
They went on to note that it was “a really challenging time” for them. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him,” they wrote. “As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
When Moore shared a throwback photo with her ex-husband from the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, the model gushed in an Instagram comment, “All the feels ❤️ beautiful.”
“Loving my 🩱 @demimoore x @andieswim,” Heming wrote alongside an Instagram snap of her posing in a swimsuit from Moore’s vintage-inspired collection.
