Eddie Redmayne Back In The Oscar Hunt In A Startling New Way – The Actor’s Side

The Actor’s Side, my Deadline video series spotlighting some of the top performers in the industry returns for Oscar season today and we begin with my conversation with Eddie Redmayne whose role as serial killer Charlie Cullen in Netflix’s The Good Nurse has created a lot of new awards buzz for Redmayne in the Best Supporting Actor category. It is indeed a chilling performance in the true story in which he co-stars with Jessica Chastain who plays a nurse at a major hospital who soon finds her new friend and colleague has been killing patients in a way that not only has gone undetected there, but in several other hospitals where he previously worked. It is a completely new kind of role for the Academy Award winning star who won Best Actor for playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, and won another nomination as The Danish Girl. Playing real life characters like those, and now Cullen is something Redmayne has lots of experience with. In our conversation we talk about why he is drawn to these kinds of challenges, and we also talk about the landmines actors can sometimes encounter playing certain characters. We also talk about the future of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, his recent Olivier award winning role in the London production of Cabaret, what it was like winning that Best Actor Oscar, and where his stellar career is heading next.
