Netflix on Saturday unveiled the first look at footage from its upcoming action pic Heart of Stone starring Gal Gadot, along with Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is an original international spy thriller that puts a female spin on action franchises like Mission: Impossible and James Bond pics. The clip revealed during the streamer’s gobal Tudum fan event today included footage of some high-wired action scenes — skydiving, shootouts, car chases and explosions — with cast interviews spliced in. Gadot and Dornan describe the film as “epic in scope.”
Tom Harper is directing the pic from a script by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing along with Mockingbird’s Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn and Pilot Wave’s Gadot and Jaron Varsano. Harper, Rucka and Patty Whitcher are exec producing.
Heart of Stone has been a high priority for Netflix following its competitive auction victory for the project in January 2021. Skydance had packaged the property and taken it to the market, with several suitors vying for rights.
The Tudum event is embracing Netflix’s upcoming slate of action-packed tentpoles. Aside from Heart of Stone, Extraction 2 with Chris Hemsworth, They Cloned Tyrone starring Jamie Foxx and John Boyega, The Old Guard 2 and The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez are also being featured. These films join Netflix’s other big action tentpoles of the past including the most recent hit The Grey Man starring Ryan Gosling.
