Goals! Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet rarely talked about their picture-perfect family before splitting in January 2022 — but when they did, they had the sweetest things to say about their brood.
The couple secretly tied the knot in 2017, 10 years after welcoming their daughter, Lola. Son Nakoa-Wolf was born in 2008. The actress also has daughter Zoë Kravitz, whom she welcomed in 1988 with her ex-husband, Lenny Kravitz.
Not only have she and the musician maintained an amicable relationship since their split, but the Game of Thrones alum is on friendly terms with Lenny as well. In fact, the pair got matching statement jewelry in December 2018.
“I’m a huge fan of the artists I meet on instagram love spreading the aloha,” Momoa captioned a shot with the “Low” singer at the time. “I got @lennykravitz a present made by @leroyswoodentattoos amazing bone skull ring. Check him out insta. Mahalo lenny for coming to support me on @nbcsnl aloha j.”
That same month, Lenny referred to the actor as his “brother” while shouting out his Saturday Night Live appearance. “Doing his thing,” the Grammy winner wrote.
Zoë has a close bond with her stepfather, and she opened up about him in a 2018 Rolling Stone interview. She first met the Aquaman star, who now calls her Zozobear, when she was in high school. He joined her and her friends in drinking 40s at the time.
That same year, the Big Little Lies alum wrote Momoa a sweet birthday tribute on Instagram. “Love you papabear,” she captioned a sweet selfie with the Hawaii native. “Happy birthday ya rascal.”
He commented, “Love u bear.”
The Hawaii native, however, announced in January 2022 that he and Bonet parted ways after four years of marriage.
“We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that ~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty,” Momoa wrote via Instagram at the time. “The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~ to be who we are learning to become … Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our children.”

The actress, who doesn’t allow her children to watch TV, told Essence in 2014: “I feel strongly about remaining as media-free as we can. I really want to cultivate my children’s imaginations. I love that they can go off and play for hours making paper airplane.”
She added of Zoë: “She’s a well-balanced young woman, and so not affected, and deep and funny and thoughtful. … For a parent to have a child out in our insane world and not have to worry about her other than the general ‘may she always be protected’ — in terms of her making decisions for herself, I feel completely at ease with that, and that’s such a great thing.”
“All I’m pretty protective about is my children, and if anyone f–ks with my children …” the actor told Entertainment Tonight in January 2017. “I’m sure most people can understand that. I can really care less about myself, I just want to always stay papa to them. They don’t see that version of me and I like that — I like being able to keep it so I’m just papa bear.”
The Baywatch alum referred to his daughters as the “loves of [his] life” in August 2017.
“Ever since I was a little boy, I have always wanted to be a father,” Momoa revealed in a November 2017 Outside documentary short.
“I really can’t tell you what the hell I was doing before I had kids – just f–king off,” Momoa said in his December 2017 Men’s Health cover story. “Wasting time. I think I was pretty reckless and definitely a bit out of control. Now I’m more focused. I probably love myself more and take care of myself more because I want to stick around.
“My kids are my greatest piece of art,” Momoa admitted to Men’s Health. “If I can pump them full of amazing stuff and surround them with beautiful art and music, then I’m going to live out my life watching them. They’re already way smarter and just way better than me. God, I love it. It’s beautiful.”
He added, “I want it to be the greatest thing I ever do: make good humans.”
In March 2018, Bonet opened up to Net-a-Porter about how well her blended family gets along. “It’s fantastic,” she said. “It’s full-on family love.”
How does the actor spend time at home? “Cuddling babies, kissing my wife, playing in the dirt, rock climbing, just being with my kids,” he told E! News in April 2018. “I love being with my kids out in nature.”
Giving credit where credit is due! “It’s all my wife,” Momoa said in December 2018 when Kelly Ripa complimented his children.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LOVEE,” the actor captioned a July 2019 Instagram post with his daughter, Lola. “I’m so thankful to be home with my ohana.” To celebrate, the father-daughter pair watched The Lion King with Nakoa-Wolf and Bonet. “This film it was heart soul tears epic,” Momoa added. “Thanks for making me cry numerous of times in front of a bunch of children.”
When Zoë posted a picture of her husband, Karl Glusman, rocking pink hair in July 2019, Momoa showed his support for his step-son-in-law. “Sexy motherf–ker,” the actor commented. “Pink on pink look[s] good.”
Momoa gushed over his stepdaughter, Zoë, in an October 2019 Instagram post after news broke of her Catwoman casting. “I’m so proud of u zozo bear,” the actor wrote. “On and off screen OHANA. … Lola and Wolfies big sister is CAT WOMAN. Unbelievable so freaking stoked. You’re going to have so much fun.”
The Big Little Lies alum commented, “LOVE YOU PAPABEAR! Love that aquaman and catwomen [sic] spend the holidays together from now on.”
After criticizing Chris Pratt on Instagram for using a plastic water bottle in December 2019, Momoa posted a picture of the Parks and Recreation alum with Lola and Nakoa-Wolf, writing, “BRO you know my children and I are madly in love with you and I love everything you do.”
“They don’t go to me for any [of it],” Momoa told Ellen DeGeneres in April 2020 of homeschooling his and Bonet’s kids. “I’m like the PE coach, you know what I mean? Like, ‘Get your ass outside. Want to go rock climb, skateboard?’ But that’s about it.”
“I didn’t know what it takes to be a dad,” the actor told InStyle in November 2020 of growing up without a father of his own. “And I don’t want to just tell my son, ‘Because I said so.’ I really want to connect, and I want him to be vulnerable and open.”
Momoa said he wanted Lola to grow up to be just like Zoë. “I love her husband [Karl Glusman]. I love her dad,” he said of his stepdaughter. “I hope and pray my daughter is that talented and loving and open and close to her family.”
Momoa admitted to crying when Lola turned 13 because he was worried about her starting to date. “I’m not going to do well with it,” he said in Men’s Health’s December 2020 issue. “I’ll just hate it if she brings home some dips–t bad-boy. … I’m like, ‘If you find a man who treats you better than I [treat Bonet], good luck!’”
Momoa is “not a fan” of his kids acting in the future, he told Entertainment Tonight in August 2021. “I’ll try my damnedest to keep them out of it. I love storytelling, I love theatrical things, I like directing and filmmaking, but I just want them to, you know, really to go for other things. … It’s very hard on people and I don’t want them to have that pressure. I’m tough, I can handle it, but I wouldn’t want to put someone I love [through] that.”
Momoa doesn’t want his children to watch Baywatch, Game of Thrones or Conan, he said during an August 2021 Fitzy and Wippa appearance. “They’re gonna see a lot things that Papa’s been doing,” the actor explained. “The earlier things in my career, you can’t see that. But you can see the new things. … Superheroes and on, we’re good.”
Momoa brings his kids’ paintings with him while traveling for work, he told James Corden in August 2021. “It makes me happy just because I miss home,” the actor said at the time.
Momoa gushed about his “babies” while bringing them to the No Time to Die premiere in September 2021.
“They kind of like me better with a beard,” the Dune star told Fatherly of his children in October 2021. “I don’t even know if my kids saw my face [for a long time]. Even when my kids see it, they’re like, ‘What? I don’t know about that.’”
In October 2021, Momoa told IndieWire that he thought of Nakoa-Wolf while filming fighting scenes in Dune. “We did a bunch of stuff, like Kali. I never really learned that. My son does that,” the actor said at the time. “There’s definitely these intimate moments where I’m signaling to my son. That’s a Kali move, where you put your hand on your heart and put it on your head. That’s to Timothée [Chalamet] in the movie, but that’s to my son in real life.”
Momoa gushed about his stepdaughter in January 2022 ahead of her debut as Selena Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman in The Batman. “So proud. Can’t wait,” he captioned an Instagram photo of Zoë in character on the film’s poster. “March 4th. Love u zozo.”
The kind words came just weeks after Momoa and Bonet announced they’d separated after four years of marriage and nearly two decades together.
“SO EXCITED @channingtatum and I are on our way to see our ZOZO [in The Batman],” Momoa gushed of his stepdaughter in February 2022 while posing for a photo with her boyfriend. “I’m so beyond proud of you @zoeisabellakravitz. Mahalo @wbpictures for the invite. we are very grateful. ALOHA J and C.”
“Lisa couldn’t be here so we’re representing, me and the babies,” the Hawaii native told Entertainment Tonight while attending Zoe’s The Batman premiere in February 2022 with Lola and Nakoa-Wolf. “We’re very excited to just be here. … It’s still family, you know?”
Two months after announcing his split from Bonet, Momoa thanked his fans for giving Lola and Nakfa-Wolf “space.” The actor wrote via Instagram in March 2022: “It’s hard enough separating in the public eye. We appreciate the continued privacy through these times.”
“We are so proud of you @zoeisabellakravitz everyone watch SNL tonight! Aloha j,” Momoa wrote via Instagram in March 2022.
My babies and my family are the most important thing,” Momoa told E! News in November 2022 of bringing daughter Lola and son Nakoa-Wolf to the red carpet premiere of Slumberland. “We always go on adventures, so we go on road trips. We go wild and go camping around the world.”
