‘Pinocchio’: Netflix Shares Behind-The-Scenes Peek At Making Of Stop-Motion Film From Guillermo del Toro And Mark Gustafson

Netflix released a featurette today with Guillermo del Toro showcasing behind-the-scenes footage of the making of Pinocchio. The streaming platform is set to release the stop-motion film in December and during their Tudum event shared the clip, which you can see above.

“To me, there’s a valuable difference between stop-motion as an art form and digital,” the Oscar-winning director says. “Stop-motion in the early days where you had the flicker of fur and fabric, even the atmospheric dust on the sets. And the imperfection was, sort of gorgeous to look at because it told you how the thing was done.”

For del Toro, “Pinocchio is a tale that has lived through the centuries, a fable very close to my heart and we are very sure that this incarnation is a particularly beautiful one.”

Pinocchio features the voices of Ewan McGregor, Christoph Waltz, Gregory Mann, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman.

Del Toro co-wrote the script with Patrick McHale. Mark Gustafson also co-directs with Del Toro. And the film’s score was penned by 2x Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, who took a trophy home for del Toro’s The Shape of Water.
