The Berlin-based European Film Academy has been shaking up its promotional program around its annual European Film Awards this year, ahead of their 35th edition in Iceland’s capital of Reykjavík on December 10.
Last week, the Academy launched its public-facing inaugural Month of European Film, which runs from tomorrow up until the ceremony, aimed at raising awareness around the films in the running as wellas the region’s wider cinema heritage, past and present.
In another first, the academy produced a video this year in which high-profile industry figures from the host country of Iceland unveil the 2022 nominations.
Among those featured are Trapped and Adrift helmer and producer Baltasar Kormákur, speaking against the backdrop of his RVK Studios; iconic Woman At War actress Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir, appearing in her swimming gear in a hot spring pool; and actor and director Benedikt Erlingsson (Woman At War), who makes his appearance in woodland, kicking off his announcement with the joke: “Do you know what you do when you get lost in Icelandic wood?”. The answer: “You Standup”. You need to watch the video to get the punchline.
The vote list of nominations can be found here. Voting by the Academy’s 4,400 members from across the European film industry begins today.
